Kim Crawford:
Golden Hour

For this campaign, Brian De Herrera-Schnering was responsible for color grading, finishing, and VFX to ensure a seamless and polished final product. The goal was to enhance the visuals in a way that felt natural and cohesive with the overall aesthetic.

One of the biggest challenges this project faced was refining certain shots that required more intensive finishing work than initially anticipated. A prime example was a close-up wine pour shot in Golden Hour. In the original footage, the glass had a noticeable amount of dust, which disrupted the clean, elegant look the client was aiming for. “A little dust cleanup usually is not a big lift, but the wine pour created a very dynamic image and we had to give that shot more TLC". This extra attention ensured the final shot was pristine while maintaining the natural motion of the pour.

Brian recalls another standout shot was the final end-card shot in the other spot Illuminate This scene involved a set extension and a faux 2.5D camera move, making the shot feel more immersive. Brian also added more trees to the scene which subtly enriched the composition.

Collaboration was crucial throughout the process. The approach to finishing work is always to serve the larger vision of the project, ensuring that color grading and VFX enhance the story rather than overpower it.

If a viewer's first comment is about color or VFX then we've failed at our jobs, not because the work wasn’t good, but because it didn’t fit the aesthetic."

To avoid this, artists like Brian like to work closely with directors, DPs, and agency creatives, ensuring every choice feels intentional and aligned with the overall vision. “It’s a team sport,” and when everyone is in sync, the results speak for themselves.
